Turning garbage into guns

Have you ever fantasized about taking advantage of one of those "gun buybacks" that trade cash or credit for old scrap guns and using the proceeds to buy yourself a shiny new boomstick? Well, somebody did--in spades.

Read the full story. It's a hoot.

sorry, but I don't find that story amusing or cool. who exactly is this guy 'sticking it to?' I'll provide the answer because it seems likely that you're too dull to know: TAXPAYERS. just because the city of Chicago provides such a stupid program doesn't mean it's OK to rip it off. that's exactly what this guy did. anyone with any sense of morality would shun a program like that. what he did basically equates to welfare fraud. and it ain't no fucking 'hoot'

Actually, my understanding is that--like most such events--the Chicago gun buyback was funded by private money. The event has to be officially sponsored by the city because of the presence of those nasty guns, but the actual cash comes from wealthy anti-gun individuals and foundations.

even if the program was funded by 'private money' it seems there still had to be a liability to the public treasury in the form of corporate or individual tax-deductions, not to mention the dozens if not hundreds of public 'servants' likely being paid 1.5 or 2x their normal wages to work the sites. I just can't see this sort of thing being 100% 'private,' not in this day and age. Sorry for being so cynical, but I don't think you can really blame me

The money was provided by people/organizations who salivate at the chance to do something anti-american.

Glad to see someone took the opportunity to capitalize on it and put the money to some actual good use.

I admire the guy who put one on over the "buyback" people. I bet he really knows how to please a woman!

If the city of Chicago were funding the buy-back (either through money or overtime pay), it would be morally OK to rip it off because Chicago is an evil city (due to its gun control laws) with an evil mayor (who tries to extend them into the entire state).

If you don't like that private donors are getting tax deductions for the money they gave him, then it's the federal government that did wrong by offering tax deductions for evil purposes.
